In The Hot Seat - IHA's Susan Brown

How is the situation at Princeton Hospital being managed?

Administrator Susan Brown: As you are aware, providing consistent emergency services at Princeton General Hospital has become increasingly challenging, in spite of our best efforts to recruit additional doctors and locums.

What were the 'best efforts made' and what additional resources have been applied?

Brown: The situation has recently worsened due to the fact several of the locums we usually rely on are currently unavailable, and one of our local doctors is no longer able to provide full emergency coverage as of April 1, 2012. Unfortunately this will mean more frequent Emergency Department closures in April and beyond, closures which could be during peak periods, unless we make adjustments.

Why are these locums no longer available, if transferred to other communities are these communities isolated?

Brown: Interior Health has asked the Town of Princeton to join with us in developing a longer term, sustainable solution. Our goal is 24/7 Emergency Department coverage in Princeton.

  1. I believe the last question was not answered???? WHY are the locums no longer available??? temporary (unsustainable) still puts some availability compared to none ?
