IHA Barely Answers Grand Forks Group - Part 1

Concerned Citizens for Community Health Care (Grand Forks, BC) met with IHA officials on May 23, 2012. Here are some of the questions asked, and some of the answers received.

Our community is disappointed that IHA has not availed itself of the investment and commitment by Rod Gustafson  in the development of Broadacres Care Facility.   Have you had the opportunity to tour this facility?   If not, why?

It is a private facility and they refused to tour it.

What is the number of seniors residing in the Boundary area on the wait-list requiring residential/complex care?

According to their Director of Acute Care, there at 10 on the wait-list.

How many seniors requiring this kind of care have been re-located to facilities outside this area?

It is on a first-bed available regardless of where that bed is in their catchment area.  They say they try to bring seniors back when a bed becomes available.

In my presentation to you at the UCM last September, I told you that my Doctor requested me to ask for the return of the 9 acute beds in Boundary Hospital that are being used for residential care.  Once Silver Kettle is operating, will those 9 beds be returned for use by our doctors needing them for seriously ill patients?

The answer was yes, but if my memory serves me correctly, I don’t think that

we will be returning to the 17 beds we previously had.

    To be continued...
