June 26, 2012 - PRINCETON, BC - Interior Health announced additional emergency department 'temporary service changes' to Princeton General Hospital.
In addition to the already implemented Monday to Thursday 12:00 AM (Midnight to 8:00 AM) closures, the same hours will include Friday, July 6th to Sunday, July 8th.
As is the norm during these hours IHA reminds patients to expect some changes to how things are done in the emergency ward. IHA also says the ward will be open, with a nurse on site to assess patients while the physician will be on call for 'emergent cases.'
Patients with less urgent matters will be assessed and, depending on their condition, may be transferred to a nearby hospital for care or offered appropriate options.

ReplyDeleteIHA still doesn't get that there are NO nearby hospitals for care other than Princeton General!!
IHA is great at giving "lip service" when they are on the hot seat and in the lion's den as at the public forum. They look real sad and say they feel for us. As soon as our backs are turned, more closures are announced. IHA is useless to us. When answering questions at the forum the standard reply was "it isn't in our jurisdiction to deal with that". Since they don't seem to have any authority to do anything helpful for us, it is time to go over their heads and get some action on our closures. Perhaps if we got rid of the IHA, there would be enough money to hire a full time ER doctor, put emergency phone boxes along the Princeton Highway, and (as Dr. Adams suggested), get ambulance paramedics who are trained at the highest levels and are able to do more in an emergency situation (note: the paramedics we have now are FABULOUS and do the best they are able to do, however, if they were trained at a higher level, they would be able to do even more.)
It's time to trim the fat and IHA should be the first to go!
I'm with Diane on this one.
